Dear editor,
Re: Change to curbside collection in Comox
Well, this is madness. What was the driving force, a whole lot of extra cash ( our tax dollars) with nowhere to use it.?
I mean, what are you thinking? Drive down any street on garbage/yard waste/recycling days and note how many containers there are at each home. The need for that amount is not going to decrease because of your Draconian ideas. Do you all live in condos? Come down, come down, from your ivory tower, and see how the other taxpayers live.
This is a town of gardens and gardeners. Where do you think the copious yard waste is going to go when we are only allowed some ridiculous amount?
We used to take our yard waste to the town yard; will that be available? Or, will dumping by the side of the road become the reality?
There are rats everywhere. That’s why we took out our “rat-proof” compost bins.
How do you think a garbage pick-up every second week is going to play out in that scenario? The stench will bring hordes of rats. We don’t want to go back to having rats in our yard.
To replace our already functioning bins, bought by us at some expense, or in the case of the little green bins, bought by the town with our money, these new bins will have electronic devices to find them, should they stray. What? You couldn’t think of any more ways to waste our money?
We have a great system right now. Trucks not working, not enough staff? Change that. Get a more reliable contractor.
Stop messing with a system that can continue to work with a simple change.
Sharon and Eugene Scheidl,
Comox
