Dear editor,
I read Angela Bennett’s letter with great disappointment but, sadly, little surprise (Resident says ‘boomer’ sense of entitlement evident at public hearing for Comox development). It reflects perfectly the old adage that if you can’t debate the facts, and you can’t debate the idea, then attack the speaker(s). Her demographic attack on citizens who went to the meeting to express legitimate concerns, and her shameful, brutal, self-serving, characterization of anyone who does not share her point of view simply proves the adage.
I attended the same meeting, and spoke against the project as proposed. At no time did anyone argue against the need for affordable housing, daycares, or any of the things Ms. Bennett wants. Rather, the principal concern was over the density of the project, which will impact the community whether Ms Bennett believes it or not. Her vulgar declaration of a “class war across North America,” is indeed a “terribly sad indictment,” but only as an expression of immature petulance that looks bad in any mirror.
Peter Abbott,
Comox
