LETTER - Medical assistance in dying contradicts basis of Canada’s constitution

Dear editor,
20347532_web1_Letter-to-the-ed

Dear editor,

In response to North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney’s invitation for input on the changes to MAiD (medical assistance in dying) legislation, I believe that we’re going down a very slippery slope.

RELATED: Blaney welcomes feedback on MAiD legislation

Canada’s constitution and laws were/are based on Biblical values and the Ten Commandments – the Sixth Commandment, being “Thou shalt not kill.” That’s serious.

Life and death decisions should not be a legal matter. It seems we are trivializing the sanctity of life which is a precious gift from God; therefore, it should be His decision.

When the rules get changed it creates more “grey” areas which cause confusion and division.

There really is only one truth and I believe we should abide by it.

Ann Pokol,

Comox
