LETTER - Fishing garbage is polluting shores of our rivers and streams

web1_fishing_1

Dear editor,

Our precious waterways are subject to the ignorance of a few fishers, who refuse to dispose of their fishing line, hooks, cigarette butts and fishing lure packaging properly.

There are a few who are careless and/or lazy, who continue to ruin the beaches and shorelines for others in the community.

Fishing line is not biodegradable; birds and animals can easily become entangled in this debris.

A big thank -you to all fishers who take the time and effort to pick up after themselves, to keep our waterways clear of gear and debris.

Fishermen have traditionally been stewards of the rivers they angle in.

Please - everyone can set a positive example by picking up and properly disposing of your or someone else’s fishing garbage.
