Human animals the real nuisance, not dogs in Courtenay park

Dear editor, I am somewhat bemused — and just a little offended — at the sign that the City has put up in the little park on 10th Street East.

Dear editor,I am somewhat bemused — and just a little offended — at the sign that the City has put up in the little park on 10th Street East.It cautions us to keep dogs on a leash and clear up after them. With the exception of one unaccompanied neighbourhood dog that I have seen walk into the park and defecate, I believe all other owners in the area are particular about cleaning up.As for being off the leash, there a couple of pets that love to run and play happily without disturbing anyone else, or causing any damage.I make the point about damage, because over time I have had to call the City regarding the electrical cables being pulled away by vandals, and know of neighbours who had to call the police because there were groups of young people who were drinking beer and otherwise behaving badly.I've often picked up empty beer cans (thanks for the refund money) and other garbage, and only this weekend cleaned up an empty vodka bottle, various packages, several Hershey Kisses, some sticks of gum, an empty condom packet, and a joint. (I kept the chocolate as being my drug of choice!).No, dear wise City engineers, it's not the dogs that are a concern, it's the humans....Peter Blackmore,Courtenay
