HST ‘shoved down our throats’

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

I would like to say that Mr. McRae is sending out his statement as he is going to lose his seat due to his party implementing the HST.

He will say whatever in order to scare the voters of the Comox Valley constituency, which is the wrong way to respond. I, along with multitudes of voters, am disgusted with the way the HST has been shoved down our throats at a time when the cost of living has escalated by at least 45 per cent.

The Comox Valley is based mostly on the service industry and the minimum wage, which is $8 per hour and mostly part-time jobs.

A large number of people have been laid off due to the HST or their hours cut back. Businesses in this town are being seriously affected.

We also have a large number of families with children who are living already in poverty, as well as a large number of seniors who are also suffering in poverty.

The responsibility, in my opinion and that of many other people of the Comox Valley, is that Mr. McRae hasn’t done the job as an elected MLA; and when elected by the people of the Comox Valley, the MLA is responsible to the people of the constituency that he has been elected by.

Paula J. Moxey,

Courtenay
