Dear editor,
Right now we are all looking at democracy in action in the Comox Valley.
Volunteers for the recall campaign are canvassing for signatures to recall our MLA. There have been some strongly worded ads from those that would oppose the recall. Those ads have been motivated by fear.
Fear of us. Fear of that the recall campaign will be successful. Fear of what we, the voters, will do.
But fear is not what those opposed to the recall should be demonstrating.
What should be done is a calm demonstration of the good done by our MLA and his party. Because this strikes to the heart of what should be considered during a recall campaign.
There are only two questions someone should ask themselves with regards to the recall petition and neither of them involve either the motives behind the recall or who is behind the recall.
The two questions that everyone in the Comox Valley needs to ask themselves with regard to the recall are these:
One, has our MLA given us good service so far in his time in office?
Two, has the party of our MLA given us good service since the election?
If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then you should not sign the petition.
If, however, the answer to either of those questions is no, then you must sign the petition.
Anything less is a betrayal of your responsibilities as a Canadian.
Eric Kozak,
Courtenay
