Don’t ask for his signature

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

I would like to publicly tell the canvassers to not solicit my signature for a recall of our MLA Don McRae.

I find your issues to be non-relevant given that a provincial referendum will be held in 2011. I believe that this recall is a costly, unnecessary action that is politically motivated by the losers of the last election.

Perhaps there would be some compassion for the process if only those that cast ballots in the last election were entitled to sign up for the recall. In my humble opinion, if in fact you voted in the election, only you should be entitled to recall.

If you didn’t vote, why should you have a say in a recall process?

Democracy should work both ways.

Many of us believe that this was not the reason for the original recall legislation being enacted in the first place.

It is pretty clear that the recall proponents are going to have a daunting task before them in soliciting 19,000 signatures when the total amount of ballots cast in the last election only totalled 29,357 out of a population of 64,084. Once again, a minority of a minority may rule the majority.

I suggest you are wasting everyone’s time, money and energy for the wrong reasons.

Norm McLaren,

Black Creek
