SPECIAL THANK YOU TO the Adopt-a-Grandparent organization making Christmas special for our elder folk. Mother in CV Seniors Village very much appreciated her package from Santa, which included a calendar with inspirational verses (last year, one from Scotland). All the various organizations in the Valley have worked very hard to spread Christmas cheer among those in need. What a place to call home where we can share with each other and give a helping hand when required!

HUGE BOUQUETS TO Pam and Rob for all their hard work for the Earl Naswell Christmas Dinner. As a first time volunteer, I did not know what to expect. They ran an awesome dinner and it all went off without a hitch. Also, Bouquets to all the other volunteers and to the many businesses who donated to this worthwhile cause. See you next year.

A MOST SINCERE thank you to Lena for arranging and LEE MAC Electric for kindly donating their time and truck to apply all the Christmas lights to our tree for the residents of Cumberland Lodge. Your kindness was so very appreciated.

HUGE BOUQUETS OF FLOWERS to the director, the actors, crew, orchestra and all those involved in the Courtenay Little Theatre production of The Little Mermaid. What an amazing, feel-good performance to have right here in the Comox Valley to help celebrate the Christmas holidays. Thank you, everyone.

BEEFS TO MY NEIGHBOURS who didn’t have the common decency to advise us they would be setting off fireworks on New Year’s Eve. We have pets who are petrified of the sounds and even the flashes of lights that come with them. I had two cats fly off the couch and two dogs run for cover looking for refuge. Absolutely rude of you not to inform us of your intentions; we live on Joshua Place in Courtenay, a supposedly “quiet neighborhood.” Next time maybe have the common decency to advise your neighbours when you are going to set off fireworks so we can prepare our “family members” for the follow-up.

THIS IS A MESSAGE to all the people who are burning wood stoves or fireplaces particularly in residential areas. If you were to go outside for a walk, you would notice all the smoke you and others are creating and that when you come in from your walk, you would be coughing and smell as though you were sitting around a campfire. When you light your fire, please go outside and see all the smoke you are creating and the smoke we have to breathe in. What you think you save is not worth the health effects to the rest of us. I wish there was a way to redirect the smoke back into your house so that you would be the only ones affected. We need to work on BC Hydro and the gas companies to reduce rates.

ON BEHALF OF the Adopt-A-Grandparent program, I would like to give a special thanks to our sponsors and volunteers. This year wouldn’t have been possible without South Courtenay Storage’s donation of a storage unit, the printing of our tags from Sure Copy, the spaces given to us to house the trees at Art Knapp, Jo Klassen’s, and Finders Keep Hers, and, of course, our lovely volunteers that worked with us to make this year easier than ever. But my biggest thanks goes to those who work hard at the seniors’ homes to keep them running and continue to help make the residents happy, without them none of this could happen. Thank you to everyone who helped make this program a success again in 2019.

WE ARE A GROUP of six friends who volunteered at the Florence Filberg Centre Earl Naswell Christmas Luncheon for the first time this year. We were very impressed with the community support for this special event. Our retailers were incredibly generous with food, clothing and gifts. All the work of set-up, food preparation, serving and clean-up was done by volunteers. We’re proud to live in a community that has such a generous spirit of giving and send A HUGE BOUQUET to everyone who helps keep this a success year after year!

ON MY NEW YEAR’S DAY I met many new people….no it was not a party…and I was not my usual chatty self. A big bouquet for wonderful treatment from: the 9-1-1 operator; two EMT workers (got to my house within 10 minutes); many nurses and technicians (lab, CT scan, X-ray, EKG); the porters who wheeled me to each section; lovely, caring ER Dr. Sarah; and to the nurses who gave me the drugs for the pain, I thank you the most. I am so grateful to the health care in Canada. Also so grateful for good friends who brought me home and looked after me.

I WOULD LIKE TO thank the RCMP and alert citizens for capturing one of the culprits in the break and entering that is happening in Courtenay/Comox. Great Work!”
