Dear editor,
We are forever grateful to BC Ferries.
My step-daughter received the call on Mother’s Day, that her mom was dying, in the Abbotsford General Hospital, after a lengthy illness and had a mere 24-28 hours to live.
As she doesn’t drive, my daughter loaded the car, and took her and stayed with her. They were about 45 minutes early at Duke Point, but the 5 p.m. sailing was full, due to Mother’s Day.
After relaying the urgency of their situation to the manager on duty, he verified the facts and allowed them on the 5 p.m. sailing as the first car on and the first car off in Vancouver.
Because of this act of kindness and caring on the part of the manager, a daughter was able to spend more time, comforting her mother, during those final hours of life.
The next day, a grief-stricken daughter made it back on the 5 p.m. ferry and they were permitted to be the first car on and the last one off, so that they could be home as soon as possible, after such a sad event.
Thank you to BC Ferries for making this trip a bit more bearable. Sometimes we forget, that companies are made up of good, caring people.
With gratitude,
