On Aug. 16 at around 7:51 p.m. a complaint of mischief was received from a resident in the 2000 block of 13th St., Courtenay. The resident reports that two young males slashed the tires on a Green Ford Ranger pickup truck parked at that location.

A CH-149 Cormorant helicopter from 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron was called to evacuate an injured patroller of the Ditidaht First Nation on the West Coast Trail Wednesday afternoon. At approximately 2 p.m., Parks Canada requested assistance to evacuate an injured trail patroller who had fallen in a remote portion of the West Coast Trail, north of the Nitinat Narrows.

POLICE BEAT: Dog stolen in B&E

• Report of a break, enter and theft was reported Aug. 9 by a resident on the 4300 block of Marsden Road in Courtenay. The thief entered the house and stole a small quantity of jewelry and a dog. The dog was later located at the thief's house and charges are pending.
