A car was spotted on fire in the Comox Valley Thursday morning.

A witness says that a fire extinguisher did not work as bystanders tried to put out a car on fire in Courtenay Thursday morning.

Steph Hyde witnessed the incident on her way to drop her kids at school. The vehicle was on fire at the corner of Guthrie Rd. and Aspen Rd. Hyde later took a video of the smoke, visible from her home.

Hyde said in a message that "the guys had a fire extinguisher out first to try and get it out, but that didn't work."

A Facebook comment on a post about the fire said the incident was over shortly before 10 a.m.

The Record has reached out to the Comox and Courtenay fire departments for comment.
