The Comox Valley Road Runners annual Learn to Run Clinic kicked off Saturday at the Native Sons Hall.

In February, the Comox Valley Lacrosse Association – host of the 2020 midget provincials — is hosting four free drop-in sessions aimed at youth new to the sport (birth years 2004 – 2015).

In her first competition, cadet Lilian Dawes won a bronze medal at the North Island Zone Biathlon Competition last weekend at Mount Washington.

The Richards and the Parkinson rinks, both from the Comox Valley Curling Club, have qualified to represent Vancouver Island at the BC Winter Games, Feb. 20-23 in Fort St. John.

Saturday, Jan. 18, is the date that all hunters are invited to bring their skulls, mounts, horns, or antlers to the Courtenay and District Fish and Game Protective Association to be measured and scored. There will be a $5 measuring fee for non-members. You are welcome to bring interesting antlers or mounts even if not record material for a little show and tell. It’s always good for a conversation.

Despite a serious age disadvantage, 13-year-old Comox judoka Dakota Sanzana won a bronze medal at the 2020 Elite 8 National Judo Championships, Jan. 11 in Montreal.

The Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team lost by two points to Carihi in the final of the annual Totem Classic last weekend in Port Alberni.

The Highland Raiders senior girls basketball team finished second at the long-running Totem Tournament, last weekend in Port Alberni.

The host Vanier won the annual Towhee senior boys basketball tournament on the weekend, which provided some electrifying games and great crowds.

The Strathcona Nordic race team, based on Mt. Washington, competed at the first of the BC Cup series near Salmon Arm at Larch Hills Nordic Area. More than 400 athletes from across B.C. attended the two-day event.
