A Cumberland lacrosse player will be playing at the international level in February.
Tayton Semenuk was invited by the Canadian Lacrosse League to play in the Commonwealth Cup in Melbourne, Australia next month.
"This is an incredible opportunity for him, and we couldn't be prouder," said Semenuk's mom Sarah Merrill in a message to the Record.
Semenuk will be playing with the Canadian Lacrosse League at the 2025 IIJL Commonwealth Cup in Melbourne, Australia, February 11 - 22, 2025.
"The CLL is dedicated to providing high performance athletes a competitive environment to play box lacrosse internationally," a release about the selection says. "Selection and consideration into the program is reserved for a select group of elite athletes. Tayton demonstrates the desire to work hard, prioritize personal goals, and hold team cohesiveness in the highest regard; resulting in wins on the floor!"
While in Australia, Semenuk and his teammates will also be holding lacrosse camps and clinics for Australian lacrosse players, where they'll share their passion, skills and joy of the game.
Since Semenuk's trip is coming soon, his family has set up a GoFundMe to help raise money to go towards his travel.
"All funds raised will go towards Tayton's travel, accommodation, and meals while in Australia. Any funds remaining will go towards registration for a local youth to participate in a season of lacrosse here at home," the release says.
