On Sunday, Jan. 12, runners from the Comox Valley went to Saanich for the Pioneer 8K run. The sun came out as the race started and 666 runners poured by the local farms.
Josh Irving was the first of the Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) with a time of 31:04. Derek Brenchley earned 1st in the Men’s 65-69 category with his time of 32:53 and Keith Wakelin finished 3rd in the same category with his time of 34:29. Ken Manning finished second in the Men’s 70-74 division with his time of 38:49.
Other CVRR runners included Coco Elgood (36:29); Briana Pauze (43:42); Maureen McDonald (46:17); Laura Wyatt (50:12); Brenda Norn (50:20); Mike Mesford (51:33); Leah Vecchione (61:44).
Run to Beer (RTB) Comox Valley also had a large contingent in the race. Both Kim Coscia and Brad Pryce finished first with a speedy time of 31:39. The annual CVRR 5k Running Clinic has now begun, but it’s not too late to join. This 10 week program is open for everyone, with a variety of pace groups to suit your unique needs. The clinic culminates with a 5k Fun Run celebration in week 10, on Saturday, March 22. And be sure to mark your calendar for March 23, as this is the date of one of the marquee running events on Vancouver Island: the Comox Valley RV Half Marathon.
