Ringette, one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most exciting winter sports, recently gained even more traction in the Comox Valley thanks to an incredibly successful ‘Come Try Ringette’ event. The Comox Valley Ringette Association is holding another event on March 22.

Aimed at introducing newcomers to the sport, the event brought together over 50 new participants, excited to experience the game firsthand. The event was so popular that even seasoned organizer, Arran Arthur, was surprised by the turnout: “This was our biggest Come Try Ringette event to date and we are thrilled to see so many new faces keen to learn to skate and try this fabulous sport!”

The event, held at the Sports Centre, was a huge success, drawing both experienced players looking to share their love for the sport and curious newcomers who were brand new to skating. The rink buzzed with energy as coaches and volunteers provided fun, engaging instruction for players of all ages and skill levels.

From learning how to glide on skates, to stabbing the ring to some basic rules of ringette, everyone had the opportunity to experience the fun of this fast-paced game. The event also helped highlight why ringette is a great way for kids to learn how to skate. Kids can learn the basics of skating while wearing full gear so falling doesn't hurt so much. And being part of a team of kids playing games and having fun makes learning come more easily.

Organizers emphasized that the sport is open to all skill levels, and this event was only the beginning of the journey for many. For those eager to keep playing, more information on next season and how to register can be found at .

Building on the momentum from the success of the last Come Try Ringette event, the community is gearing up for an exciting Ringette Tournament this weekend from March 21 to 23.

‘Ringette on the Rock’ will showcase the youngest athletes up to u12 as well as Open teams (18+), offering a thrilling experience for fans and players alike. But that’s not all—organizers are also hosting another ‘Come Try Ringette’ event during the tournament so that participants can come out and watch a game before or after as well as coming on the ice to try it for themselves.

Please bring a friend, or two, and ‘Come Try Ringette’ this Saturday, March 22 at 10:45 a.m. at Sports Centre #2. Be sure to come early to watch a game and check out the incredible tournament prizes that everyone in the community can bid on. Prizes such as a stay at the Pacific Shores Resort & Spa, two tickets to a BC Lions game, Malahat Skywalk passes, Group Surfing with Surf Sisters in Tofino, gift baskets and so much more!

Skate rentals and helmets are available and organizers recommend bringing any extra padding you have for shins, elbows, knees etc. to help take the sting out of falls. Ringette is more than just a sport—it’s a growing community, and with events like these, organizers are excited to see even more kids joining the association. Who knows? The next future NRL (National Ringette League) star could be someone who shoots a ring for the very first time this weekend!

Whether you’re looking to play, coach or just cheer from the stands, the community is eager to welcome everyone interested in becoming part of the ringette family. Ringette means extra ice time for multi-sport players, offers optional travel and no early mornings.

Ringette also has a strong focus on teamwork and skating development. The Comox Valley Ringette Association board also wants to wish their u14 and u16 players all the best as they compete in Provincials this weekend in Richmond.
