The Schulte Racing Team (SRT) from Black Creek was delighted to showcase their race car at the second annual Driven Women – Women in Automotive event held inside the sprawling showroom of Comox Valley Dodge (CVD).
This jam-packed event was once again a huge success thanks to the many sponsors who made it all possible. Last year. one of the speakers was the Comox Valley's home grown formula racer Nicole Havrda.
Melanie Mentlien, General Manager of Georgia Straight Collision (GS), is a co-founder of Driven Women with CVD and sponsor of the SRT. Two race cars were on display, both painted at GS by Wayne Woodbeck. Woodbeck and his wife Tania own the 1964 Ford Falcon which Tania drives in events held in Port McNeill.
“We are so happy this event was so successful and our race teams were here as well,” said Mentlien.
The 2005 RH Racecars Cavalier of SRT will be racing once again this season at Mission Raceway Park in the Canada West Doorslammer Series, a drag race class chock full of fast hot rods like the Cavalier. Leslie Schulte, team owner and Crew Chief, said that 2024 was a difficult year for SRT with major mechanical issues plaguing the team for most of the year.
“Once we finally resolved the suspension issues we won one event and runner-ed up another at the last race weekend of the year, salvaging our season to place a respectable 3rd in points," she said.
Driver Otto Schulte added that the “hot rod was so bad that I got to the point I didn’t even want to take it down the track fearing it would get out of control and flip upside down at 300 km/h. It was bloody scary!”
“We often take our grand kids racing with us to be our pit crew," Leslie said. "They are awesome. Both Rhaen (11) and Juniper (10) Schulte came to Driven Women to help represent our team. They are excellent pit crew members. This season their brother Bodhi (8) will try his hand at being our pit crew.”
