It was quite the wake-up call Tuesday morning for Comox resident Darrell Joan Tomkins, who awoke to a black bear taking a stroll across his property facing Marina Park in Comox around 6:30 a.m.

The man involved in the fatal incident on 6th Street in Courtenay Friday has been charged with second degree murder.

LUSH Valley Food Action Society hosts a free day of garden workshops and the launch of its mobile community cooler. The event takes place at the Share the Harvest Community Garden at 721 Harmston Ave. in Courtenay from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday, July 9. There will be more than 12 workshops led by gardening experts with plenty of time for tours and mingling - a way to showcase community gardens and give back to the community for its support and involvement.

The Comox Valley Regional District Alternative Approval Process for the Civic Centre regional office building officially begins July 6 and will be running until 4:30 p.m. Aug. 18. The building will be tax neutral to all residents.

The Rotary Club of Comox thanks all volunteers and sponsors that made the 30th annual Ducky 500 race possible. Starting at the Condensory Bridge, 6,500 rubber ducks raced down the Puntledge and Courtenay rivers, finishing near the 5th Street bridge beside Lewis Park, at the end of the Courtenay July 1st parade. All funds raised by selling Ducky tickets will go to charities in the Comox Valley.
