This morning, Sept. 4, several people were assaulted in downtown Courtenay.
Around 9:00 a.m., Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a person assaulting people with a knife in front of the library in downtown Courtenay. Frontline workers, with the help of members of the public, were able to apprehend the female youth within minutes.
“The safety and well-being of our community remains our highest priority. We understand the concern this event may cause and we want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat” said Insp. Scott Mercer, Officer in Charge of the Comox Valley RCMP. “The quick response by members of the public and officers played a critical role in preventing any further harm today.”
Police are still investigating the area and gathering evidence. There have been no reports of serious physical injuries. Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services is available to anyone affected by this incident.
The suspect will remain in custody until their court appearance.
