The 424 Squadron was unaware of what they would face during this morning’s (Sept. 12) briefing. The team was tasked with locating a plane crash west of Campbell River. They searched visually and using the new cell phone technology that allows SAR to communicate with those in distress, by a beacon sounding as well.
When in range of the crash, a sound would be audible. They searched visually and by the beacon until they located the yellow and silver of the downed plane. The crew was able to make contact with the survivor and get them a message. The mission was a success.
