Pat’s Playground will have its grand opening on Aug 4 at 1 p.m. in the Maple Pool Campground in Courtenay.
The 1600-square-foot playground serves more than 20 kids who currently reside at Maple Pool and have no other playground access.
The park is a memorial to Patrick Davis, who was a community leader at WeCan Shelter Society, a non-profit organization that converts sea cans into homes for the unhoused.
Playground organizer Charlene Davis said in a release that kids had always asked Pat for a playground and the time has come to build one. She’s overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support from building suppliers and contractors who have donated construction materials and their time to help the community.
Pat’s Playground has been funded by a GoFundMe Page for Patrick Davis as well as the Rotary Club of Comox.
The opening of Pat’s Playground will coincide with a Celebration of Life for Patrick Davis.
