Dozens of Greater Victoria candidates are kicking off their five-week campaigns after new Prime Minister Mark Carney dissolved Parliament and called a snap election, where Canadians will take to the polls on April 28.

Over the few weeks, electoral ridings will become figurative war zones as candidates vie for one of the 343 seats in the House of Commons that are up for grabs.

Vancouver Island is home to seven of those ridings, four of which are in the Capital Region. The declared candidates in Greater Victoria ridings as of March 25 are:

The election will be held on Monday, April 28, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance polling days will be from April 18 to 21, with polls open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can also vote early at any Elections Canada office until April 22.
