The Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue (CFSSAR) will conduct parachute training for CFSSAR students and recertification training for Search and Rescue (SAR) Technicians at 19 Wing Comox from April 29 until May 9.
Comox residents may hear the Skyvan, a twin engine aircraft, flying overhead and see parachutists training from approximately 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. daily. Due to the busy operational and training flying schedules at 19 Wing in April, these are the only hours available for CFSSAR to conduct this training;
"We regret any disruption the aircraft noise may cause," a statement from 19 Wing says.
The flight path of the aircraft is determined by the prevailing winds to ensure the safety of the participants.
This training and recertification is essential to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) search and rescue mandate.
Search and Rescue Technicians are highly trained specialists who provide advanced pre-hospital medical care to those in distress in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
