After numerous years of service to the community, Island Health announced on Sept. 19 that it will close the retail portion of the pharmacy at the Cumberland Health Centre, located at 2696 Windermere Ave., on Nov. 1.
Island Health announced that they will reconfigure the space to better support the long-term care pharmacy services to Cumberland Lodge and several other long-term care facilities in the mid-Island area.
“(We) will use the pharmacy space to support the long-term care pharmacy services which are different from retail pharmacy services,” said Andrew Leyne, media relations advisor at Island Health. “The intent is to better utilize the space for the long-term care pharmacy.”
Pharmacy personnel mentioned that the closure will not result in any of them losing their job.
In the weeks leading up to the closure, the staff will help customers with the transfer of prescriptions to a pharmacy of their choice.
“I know that physicians informed the clients of the closure and assistance is offered to transfer prescriptions to another pharmacy in town,” said Leyne, media relations advisor at Island Health.
Island Health noted that local residents may find it convenient to move their prescription to the nearby Pharmasave, situated at 2665 Beaufort Ave., less than 400 meters from the Health Centre.
