On Monday evening (Oct. 7), the Village of Cumberland welcomed Nick Ward to the position of councillor. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Jesse Ketler in June of this year.
General voting took place on Sept. 21 and an estimated 21 per cent of Cumberland turned out to vote Ward in with a total of 535 votes out of 732 ballots cast.
“I would like to welcome Councillor Ward to Council and congratulate him on his recent by-election victory. I would also like to congratulate all the candidates on their efforts and appreciate their continued service to our community. A healthy electoral race is good for our democracy. Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank Jesse Ketler for her service. We look forward to working with Councillor Ward in delivering the goals and objectives of our strategic plan,” says Mayor Vickey Brown.
Ward and his family have lived in Cumberland for 15 years, during which time, Ward has been a local business owner and employer. Ward volunteered on the Village’s Advisory Planning Commission, Economic Development Steering Committee, and the Official Community Plan Local Citizens Advisory Group, as well as with community groups. The next local general elections will be held across B.C. in Oct. 2026.
