It was a fiery evening Wednesday shortly after 7 p.m. near the CIBC branch at the Crown Isle Shopping Centre in Courtenay, as a Ford Aerostar van caught fire near the bank.
The Courtenay Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze; there were concerns the fire could have spread to the nearby bank but it was put out in time. The driver was uninjured.
