As temperatures soar across the province, the Comox Valley Regional District has released a comprehensive list of cooling centres and misting services to ensure comfort for its residents.
In the city of Courtenay, three cooling options are available: the Filberg Centre (2nd floor, 411 Anderton Ave. Monday to Friday, noon-8 p.m.), the lobby area and arena bleachers at the Comox Valley Sports Centre (3001 Vanier Dr. open Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-9 p.m.) the Lewis Park Outdoor Pool and splash park (489 Old Island Hwy.), and the Courtenay Library (300 6th St.).
For the town of Comox, four cooling options await. These include the Comox Community Centre (1855 Noel Ave. Monday to Friday, 6 a.m.-9:30 p.m.), the Comox Marina’s Splash Park (Marina Park - 127 Port Augusta St., open 10 a.m.-8p.m.), Comox Library (#101, 1720 Beaufort Ave.), and several misting stations at the Comox Fire Rescue (1870 Noel Ave.).
Cumberland also provides a variety of choices, such as the Rec Centre (2665 Dunsmuir Ave), the Village’s Splash Park, and Cumberland Library (2724 Dunsmuir Ave.).
CVRD officials are also suggesting that taking a dip at Comox Lake is an excellent way to cool off amidst this heatwave.
In addition, the Mobile Heat Outreach program will be travelling to all cooling spaces throughout the Comox Valley to assist with the safety of residents.
