Last year’s community granting programs supported more than 50 organizations in the Comox Valley, including Arden Elementary’s school salad bar for children. Student Liam Wick shows off a heaping plate of Greek salad with school principal Andrew Ferneyhough, Parent Advisory Committee vice president Wade Wick and school vice principal Teresa Cameron.

The local non-profit sector will have over $450,000 available in funding this year through the Comox Valley Community Foundation’s granting programs. The funding supports programs, services and initiatives of Comox Valley’s non-profit organizations. The funds will be dispersed between Aug. 2024 and March 2025.

“This annual funding exists in the Comox Valley thanks to the generosity of so many individuals, families and businesses who give through the Community Foundation,” said Jolean Finnerty, Executive Director of the Foundation. “It’s an honour to steward these gifts back into the community where they can immediately support organizations who are working to make a difference every single day.”

The funding follows a trust-based and community informed approach through four granting streams.

There is $300,000 in Community Enrichment Grants which go towards three focus areas: mental health and connection, food security and food systems and equity, diversity and inclusion.

In conjunction with the Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness, $50,000 in grants will be distributed towards housing insecurity, housing affordability and homelessness.

To support environmental initiatives that conserve and protect the Comox Valley’s natural environment, the foundation is giving away $50,000 in grants in early 2025 via a community table comprised of environment and conservation focused organization.

The last $50,000 of funding will be given to adults with diverse abilities support organizations. The funding supports recreation and social programming within the diverse abilities community due to funds like the Developmental Disabilities Fund.

These community grants are intended to fund programs, services and operating activities offered by registered charities and other qualified donees. The Community Enrichment Grants online application portal opens Aug. 19. To learn more about eligibility and how to apply, visit:  .
