On Sept. 9, an unique event takes place at Rad Brewing Company in the Comox Mall. It’s International Buy Your Priest a Beer day. This gives the community a chance to meet with local clergy members outside of a church setting in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The event takes place all across the UK and Canada but the exact origins are unknown. As well as how long the events have taken place.

Taking part this year are Sulin of St. Peter’s Comox, Jenn of CV Presbyterian, Micah from Living Hope and Karen from Comox United.

The first time that this event took place locally was in 2022 and grew out of a desire to reconnect after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and give the local community a chance to meet with ordained church leaders. The community is given an opportunity to see how “normal” the clergy is while sharing a beer in a relaxed environment. It also gives people a chance to ask reverent or irreverent questions about the local churches, Christianity and what it’s like to be a priest.

It’s meant to be a fun and light hearted event that can connect the community in a unique way to clergy members.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 6.pm..
