BC Hydro is issuing a public safety advisory to stay away from all reaches of the Puntledge River from April 4 through April 7.
Beginning this evening we will approximately double our spill from Comox Dam from about 40 cubic metres per second (m3/s) to about 80 m3/s. These increased flows will provide a recreational opportunity for expert kayakers; however, the wider public is advised to stay away from the river flow.
The Comox Lake Reservoir water level is currently at 134.7 metres above sea level and rising. Inflows are expected to remain above normal for the next seven to ten days. Water will begin to spill over the Comox Dam at 135.33 metres. The increased water release from the Comox Dam helps manage the reservoir level to maintain operational flexibility to absorb future inflow events.
The Powerhouse is operating at full power generation.
Safety signage will be in place along the river highlighting the risk.
