NIC’s Write Here Readers Series continues this fall with award-winning writer Anita Anand.

She will be reading at the Tyee Hall Student Lounge at NIC’s Comox Valley campus Thursday, Sept. 28, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.

“I love meeting readers – it’s so much fun,” she said. “When you write, you write in isolation, so when you get to read to an audience it’s such an amazing connection.”

NIC’s Write Here Readers Series showcases the richness of literary arts, offering students and community members the opportunity to hear, meet and discuss ideas with some of Canada’s top writers.

“The goal of the Write Here Readers Series is to encourage creativity and provide opportunities for the public and students to meet and discuss literature with writers, both local and from other regions,” said Nick Van Orden, NIC English instructor and series organizer.

“We aim for a diversity of voices and a combination of prominent and emerging writers,” said NIC English instructor and Fat Oyster organizer Judy LeBlanc. “Anand represents a new voice that is starting to emerge in Canada with her writing reflecting her background and experiences growing up and living in Canada, feeling like someone on the outside looking in.”

Developed annually by NIC’s English Department, the Write Here Readers Series offers a wide variety of university-transferable English and creative writing courses across the region. Courses include of fiction and non-fiction writing, poetry, drama and screenplays, providing opportunities for students to connect and build their own portfolio of work.

NIC also offers creative writing courses through its School of Continuing Education, including a Creative Writing Workshop (GENI-2335) in October and for Creative Writing for Beginners (GENI-2336) in February.
