An evening of musical theatre and classic love songs promises to be "Just Lovely" at the Courtenay St. John the Divine Anglican Church.
The church is welcoming everyone to the show, featuring singers Michael McKinnon and Shanté Horlick.
"Our singers are a remarkable couple who delight audiences with their amazing powerful voices and amusing antics," a release from the church says.
McKinnon is a very tall man with a very deep, clear voice, a basso profundo, whose notes can plunge two octaves below middle C. Horlick is a tall brunette beauty with a rich mezzo-soprano voice that will fill the hall with melody. They are both trained opera singers, and graduates from the UBC opera program.
They've performed in large-scale venues in Vancouver and internationally, and have been highly-sought after for smaller venues across the Island after they moved to Nanaimo.
"Together they are a witty, dynamic duo with a larger than life presence," the release says. "They look amazing in whatever costumes they don, and have it down pat with their flirtatious, humorous antics."
McKinnon and Horlick will be accompanied by Scott Knight on piano, playing seemingly-millions of notes to accompany their voices.
"This threesome will treat us to a bouquet of coquettish and dramatic love songs, both popular and classical," the release adds.
The Saturday matinee will be held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, located at 5th and Harmston. The show is Feb. 22, starting at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 and are available at Laughing Oyster Books. Blue Heron Books and online by e-transfer at givings@sjtdcourtenay.ca.
