Singer/songwriter folksters Michael Averill from Vancouver and PK Tessmann from Cumberland are teaming up for a West Coast Tour starting in July.

The two musicians met at a BC Touring Council function and discovered that their musical styles would lend well to a double bill show.

“I’m really looking forward to touring with PK”, says Averill, “Our similar performance styles and desire make connections within each community is going to make travelling around together a lot of fun!”

Michael Averill is an adventurous Canadian troubadour who delivers stories and songs of serendipity around the country by foot. Through heartfelt roots, folk, and blues, Aberill captivates his audiences and invites them to connect deeper within themselves and their communities.

In April 2017, Michael released a brand-new album titled All We Ever Need. It’s a collection of works inspired by four years of walks throughout various regions of the country, and the people and places Averill has encountered on the way. What started as a pilgrimage into his father’s Yukon past evolved into a deeper study of the value of relationships, and connection to others.

PK Tessmann is a fixture in the Vancouver Island indie-folk community. With more than 20 years of songwriting and performance behind her, Tessmann is celebrating the release of her new album Dear City (Fall 2016).

Two-time winner of Best Roots/Folk Recording at the Vancouver Island Music Awards, Tessmann’s work has been described as “beguiling,” “potent,” and “unpretentious.”

Her latest work is no exception. An alumna of the Capilano College Jazz program in Vancouver, Tessmann stays busy with doula work, teaching vocal lessons, facilitating songwriting workshops, touring solo or with friends, and spending time with her husband and two young boys.

She has released two previous records, including full-length album Maybe (2006), PK Tessmann EP (2013) and has contributed to many compilation albums. In addition to her two recent VIMA awards, she has garnered further VIMA and Indie Acoustic Project nominations for Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, and Best Singer-Songwriter CD of 2016 (Dear City). Listen to CBC Radio 2 to hear PK’s music on the national broadcast.

The tour dates are as follows: July 4 // Ladysmith, B.C. - House Concert July 5 // Cumberland, B.C. - Rare Bird Bookshop July 6 // Quadra Island, B.C. - Kameleon Food & Drink July 7// TBA July 8 // Mission, B.C. - Lyon’s Den House Concert July 9 // East Vancouver, B.C. - Notional Space
