There鈥檚 a lot in the news of late of wealthy Canadians avoiding their fair share of taxes by using offshore accounts. Ordinary Canadians are rightfully outraged, but they need to know that our own federal government has being doing the same for years. Official Development Assistance is the money that countries contribute to help the world鈥檚 poorest get at least some kind of help.

Mr. Jangula鈥檚 comments regarding rental housing affordability, which simplify it to an issue of 鈥渟upply and demand鈥�, ignores the market mechanisms which are very much within municipal control. Onerous building regulations, slow building application turnaround times, and arduous rezoning processes have the net effect of driving up the cost of building, or stymying development all together.

In response to Mr. Zerkee鈥檚 letter sent to Mayor Larry Jangula (and published in the Nov. 16 Comox Valley Record ) about the proposal to add a small cross at each end of the rainbow crosswalk, I would like to propose that you also put a pentagram next to the crosses to remind everyone of all the witches that were persecuted, burned, or hung by Christians for their Wiccan beliefs.
