Baroque music fundraiser for Courtenay refugee sponsorship group

“Rejoice Ensemble” will be performing Baroque music for a fundraiser on Oct. 15 at St. John the Divine Anglican Church on Fifth Street in Courtenay. Musicians include Ardene Larison, Ellen VanHeerden, (first violinists) Joyce Relyea, Corinne Innes (second violinists), Heather Sinclair and August Castle on viola, and Marcia Haley on cello. The event is a fundraiser for the Fifth Street Refugee Sponsorship Group, which is raising funds to support the settlement of a refugee in the Comox Valley.

Project Watershed completes work at Simms Park

Local residents who use Simms Millennium Park will notice some significant changes since Project Watershed completed salmon habitat improvement work in the park this summer. During the month of August the Project Watershed team completed the construction phase of the project, which has been many years in the planning. The endeavour included the removal of an old culvert connecting the Courtenay River through the park into an inner pond area.
