Burgers for breakfast, lunch and dinner might sound like a child's fantasy. For one Nelson couple, it became a feat of gastronomic endurance.
Over just 10 days, Brett and Karina Rigby ate all 39 burgers featured in the .
The pair decided to tackle the burger mountain for their community website , which they started earlier this year. Not content to just eat the burgers and cast their votes, the Rigbys carefully reviewed and ranked each one.
Brett said the first 10 or so burgers were eaten for fun. The last 29? Not so much.
“We weren't just eating the burgers. We were writing notes on them. We were doing video reviews, and we were writing articles for our website. So this whole thing was actually an enormous amount of work, especially to do it in such a short time.”
To make it work, the couple scheduled four burgers daily that were split, shared and debated over. They ate burgers for every meal, which meant going to some restaurants for breakfast burgers, and also travelled to Kaslo, Salmo and Slocan Valley restaurants to complete their checklist.
Even though they were eating an intimidating quantity of burgers, Karina said they never tired of the meals and were impressed by the variety of choices. They especially enjoyed entries that highlighted local ingredients.
“Everybody brought their A-game. There's such a vast, big variety of flavour profiles all over the place. So it's not like we were eating 39 bacon cheeseburgers.”
Now that they've conquered Mount Burger, the Rigbys say they are going to take a break from eating burgers for the foreseeable future.
”We are feeling the salad kick is coming on," said Brett. "There's a food coma. So we've been eating salads for breakfast, which is weird, but we feel like it's probably good for us.”
