The Comox Valley Concert Band

On Mother's Day the Evergreen Club will be presenting the popular Comox Valley Concert Band in a song and dance review at the Florence Filberg Centre.

The event will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 11.

Under the direction of Denise Marquette, the 60 piece wind ensemble will dance you through the years with steps for all ages; a waltz, a fox trot, a samba, a hora, a jive, a polka, a gallop and if that doesn’t set your blood racing, a full throttle jitterbug.

CVCB has been entertaining the valley in its present form since 1947 and in a prior iteration all the way back to 1895. That’s a whole lot of dancing. And it you can’t dance, sing along with hits like “Time After Time”, “My Girl”, “The Streets of Laredo” and a medley of singable, danceable tunes from Oliver. “Consider yourself one of the family” and grapevine your way to the Florence Filberg Conference Hall.

Rumours suggest that the Lord of the Dance may also make an appearance – for one afternoon only. The band features a flute section to die for, some lower brass to fear, a percussion section to run from and enough woodwinds to soothe your soul. So put on your stompers, soft shoes, slippers, gum boots, tap shoes or Broadway flats and trip along to what has been billed a “light, fantastic” afternoon of live music.

All this and more at the annual Mother’s Day Concert. The music begins at the Florence Filberg Centre at 2:00 pm, Sunday, May, 11. Complimentary coffee, tea/cookies provided after the show. Tickets available at Florence Filberg Centre reception or at the door $15 each and children under 12 are free.
