Grammy Award-winning singer and dancer Paula Abdul has announced her Straight Up! tour in Canada this fall and is making the first stop in Victoria.
With special guests Taylor Dayne and Tiffany, the tour kicks off Sept. 25 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, after which it will visit over 20 venues across Canada 鈥� including six B.C. stops 鈥� before ending in Sydney, Nova Scotia on Oct. 26. Victoria is the only Vancouver Island stop of the tour but on the mainland she will play Abbotsford, Penticton, Kamloops, Dawson Creek and Prince George.
Abdul has over 60 million records sold to date and earned 17 MTV Video Music Awards nominations with five wins, two Grammy Awards, three AMAs, two Emmy Awards, two People鈥檚 Choice Awards and five June Awards.
Her career in the spotlight began as the head choreographer for the Los Angeles Laker Girls cheerleading squad at 19. Discovered by The Jacksons, she branched into music and went on to choreograph numerous films and TV shows including Coming to America, Jerry Maguire and The Doors.
Her first studio album, Forever Your Girl (1988), produced four singles topping the charts: Forever Your Girl, Cold Hearted, Opposites Attract and Straight Up, setting a record for the most #1 Billboard charted singles from a debut album.
More recently, Paula did a Las Vegas residency in 2019, received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor (2019) and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is also known for her time as an American Idol judge and her philanthropy including for charities Wigs & Wishes, Children鈥檚 Hospital LA, No Kid Hungry, Dancers Against Cancer and more.
