The Bard ‘o’ Scotland will be honoured at the Robbie Burns Contra Dance on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Big Yellow Merville Hall (1245 Fenwick Rd., Merville).
The Fiddlejam Funtime Fiddlers will play for your dancing pleasure while kilted Scotsmen and Scotswomen swirl about the floor.
You’ll step lively as Celtic caller June MacCannon guides the dancers with her clear brogue and clever instructions, always with an eye on those who might need a bit more guidance.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and we generally have a complimentary contra dance workshop right before the dance.
At these country Contra dances, families and single dancers are very welcome and singles can pair up with anyone during the dance. To strut our musical versatility, we also play old time waltzes and reels; jigs and swing; schottisches and foxtrots. There is a dance for everyone at this Highland Hoedown as well as tasty helpings of “haggis” to titillate the tastebuds. Wear your kilt and kick up your heels.
So, Saturday, Jan. 26, steer your Shetland pony in the direction of the Big Yellow Merville Dance Hall, on the Old Island Highway, between Campbell River and Courtenay
Doors open at 7 p.m., dance starts at 7:30. Cost is $10/adults, $5/youth and you can come as a family for $22. FMI: 250-339-4249.
