Musical pair at Joe’s

Two people. Two consummate musicians. From out-of-the-box musical creativity to soul-warming, time-stopping songs and melodies.

Two people. Two consummate musicians. From out-of-the-box musical creativity to soul-warming, time-stopping songs and melodies.

Corbin Keep — cello and vocals. Cello will be played sideways, backwards, occasionally upside-down. This by a man who loves the cello. Really.

Mel Watson — formerly of the Australian sensation Fruit. Watson is accomplished on several instruments, favourite being her four-and-a-half-octave voice, with which she “reaches tones that would give Mariah Carey and Celine Dion hernias.”

She has received 19 Australian Music Awards, including nine for Most Outstanding Instrumentalist.

As Travelin’ Light, Keep and Watson are fun, totally engaging, moving, improvisatory, and as genuine as it gets.

“When you take two people who already are quite able to reshape your preconceptions of vocal and instrumental prowess, and then let them loose on the same stage to ‘play’ … wow, double wow … youch … way too cool … magical!” — Longevity John, Duncan Garage Showroom.

Voices, cello, trumpet, soprano sax, flute, guitar, percussion and then some. Original music sung with passion, panache, purpose, pulchritudiousness, and as many other cool P words as you can think of, or make up. Then get started on the rest of the alphabet.

The kitchen opens Friday at 5 p.m. for people who want to come early to have dinner and the show starts just after 8 p.m.

Tickets for this show are $10 and can be reserved by calling 250-702-6456.
