Theatreworks Centre for Performing Arts is proud to present ‘A Generation of Women’ on International Women’s Day March 8 at the Abby Studio in Cumberland. There will also be a screening on March 9 at the Legion on Quadra Island.

The International Women’s Day theme for 2025 is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality, Empowerment. “

Theatreworks, under the artistic direction of Kymme Patrick, tells the humorous and insightful stories of five generations of women who helped shape our community with their dreams.

Patrick, a well known actor, writer, and director, has written this one-woman show to celebrate and honour women who fought for justice, fairness and equality. It is a fitting tribute to International Women’s Day.

‘A Generation of Women’ is a fact-based historical look at the coal mining town of Cumberland in 1910, the docks of Comox in the 1920’s, Campbell River logging in the 1930’s, and into modern times. Patrick plays five interesting characters to tell the stories of our local history and contributions of women. This is a proud story of strength and resilience.

Showtimes are March 8, 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Abby Studios in Cumberland and March 9, 2:00 p.m. at the Legion on Quadra Island. Tickets are $20 at the door or reservations can be made at theatreworks@shaw.ca. Reservations are recommended as this show is likely to sell out.
