Comox Valley DJ Party Marty has been in the music scene since the age of 13, starting in Montreal with cassette tapes and using his parent’s tape deck to play music in his high school cafeteria at lunchtime.
He knew then that music was going to be in his life forever, and his passion for music continued into his adult years. He started to work with MuchMusic hosting video dance parties in Quebec.
At 19, Marty decided to explore the world by working for Club Med where he DJed in their nightclubs, which took him from Mexico, Turkey and Switzerland.
When he landed in B.C., he spent his first 10 years working for Z95.3FM and 650 CISL in Vancouver.
Alongside legendary mobile and night club DJ, ‘DJ Paul The Wall,’ Marty hosted hundreds of parties from Sweet 16s to weddings. He had the opportunity to play alongside Michal Bublé and his band, interviewed Destiny’s Child and even planned and hosted Comox Valley born-and-raised Red Robinson’s retirement party.
His passion for music is contagious.
“I love how music makes people smile. It makes everyone come together,” Marty said. “I enjoy watching people move, laugh and sing. Music is in my blood and everywhere I go, music is with me.”
Party Marty is an open-format DJ meaning no genre is out of bounds. He has been known to mix hip-hop with pop, ’60s music to country, house music and disco.
After taking a break to focus on his firefighting career, in March of 2023, Marty dusted off his turn tables and DJed his first dance party in many years. Since then, he has hosted several pop-up dance parties, weddings, 50th birthday parties, family gatherings and now Christmas parties.
On Dec. 31 at The Florence Filberg Center in downtown Courtenay, Party Marty is reuniting with legendary Vancouver DJ Paul The Wall for the biggest New Year’s Eve Party the Valley has seen in more than a decade.
Both DJs will be spinning the hits from the 80s to now. A special guest saxophone player Rachel Cooper will be grooving along while the DJs are mixing.
There will be door prizes worth hundreds of dollars courtesy of John Sheehan from the REMAX and much more.
