Kelly in house concert

Singer-songwriter Jadea Kelly will perform at a house concert in Comox on April 15 with violinist Sara Fitzpatrick.

This concert is part of Canada’s Home Routes circuit, bringing world-class musicians to perform in the comfort and intimacy of a private home. With a limited audience the concerts are up close and personal and there is ample opportunity to meet the musicians.

For Kelly, a young Ontario folk-country singer and songwriter, getting her first taste of fame recording and touring with the aggressive rock band and Juno-nominated Protest the Hero seems happily out of character, but was an incredible experience. Despite the unfamiliar metal tones favored by Protest the Hero’s growing following, her fan base grew substantially after touring and recording with the band.

She gained a reputation as the mysteriously beautiful female vocalist in the music video The Divine Suicide of K. This video has since gone into rotation on MTV and Much Music.

In 2008 Jadea released her first CD, Second Spring, and won “Best Country” honors at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. Her second album, Eastbound Platform, was produced by famed musician and songwriter David Baxter, and released to a sold out Horseshoe Tavern in April 2010.

Following this release she completed two Cross Canada Tours, took part in a CBC LIVE recorded performance at the Stewart Park Folk Festival and will also tour the U.S and Netherlands. Jadea has since been nominated as New/Emerging Artist of the Year by the CFMA (Canadian Folk Music Awards).

Jadea’s stage persona has been compared with such established female vocalists as Neko Case and Kathleen Edwards, yet, it is Jadea’s distinctive voice and the convincing harshness that engages and captivates her listeners.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 7. Seating is limited and home concerts sell out quite quickly. Tickets are $15 (youth $12).
