The Island Voices Chamber Choir is coming to St.. George鈥檚 United Church in Courtenay on Nov. 17 from 2:30 p.m.. The show will go beyond hearing great choral music.

Music director John Hooper has sought out music from across Canada and around the world that will allow you to stop, listen, imagine, and be changed. 

鈥淚 chose music that will give the audience the chance to listen 鈥� deeply listen to the depth of music as well as the richness of the lyrics, sung with richness and commitment by thirty-four gifted choristers,鈥� he shares. 

The entirely a cappella program includes a motet by Bach, a hymn purportedly sung as the Titanic went down, a folk song about an Indonesian tug of war, a multi-part canon on which the audience will be invited to sing with the choir to make music in as many as 42 parts. There are pieces with no words, and even one piece with no notes.

Island Voices presents 鈥淐ome, listen鈥�, its first concerts of the season on Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at St. George鈥檚 United Church in Courtenay. Tickets ($25 for adults, $10 for students ) are available through the choir鈥檚 website at or through TicketSpice.
