Calling all entertainers with a few extra hours to offer.

Beaufort Association for Inclusion in Action is expanding its entertainment program that schedules musicians and entertainers for one-hour monthly shows at the facility.

With that in mind, the non-profit registered charity, which provides day programs for adults with developmental disabilities is holding auditions for musicians and entertainers May 15, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 495 6th Street, Courtenay.

The association’s 30 participants thoroughly enjoy dancing and singing along with acts such as The Oldtime Fiddlers who regularly volunteer their time.

Beaufort participants will be the judges as to who makes it through the audition to volunteer their musical/entertainment talents or receive a $100 honorarium per one-hour performance monthly on a rotating basis or for a one-time event at the facility.

Beaufort Association for Inclusion in Action is the longest-running service provider for people with disabilities in the Comox Valley. It was founded in the late 1950s by a group of parents, teachers, and friends who sought to provide supportive services for families in the Comox Valley to end the custom of sending children with developmental disabilities away to institutions.

In 1988, Beaufort Association was awarded a contract to provide ‘community-based day services’ for 15 adults, which took the form of the Quest Personal Development Program. In 1990, the Ministry of Social Services asked the association to take on an additional day program, the Community Options Program, which serves approximately 18 adults. Both programs continue to operate with partial funding by Community Living BC.

Register by May 13, with executive director and CEO Cynthia Shore, by emailing: manager@beaufortassociation.ca or calling 778-585-4337.
