The Comox Valley Concert Band is teaming up with guest Powell River Community Band and offering a Sunday afternoon of great music at Comox Marina Park on June 4 at 2 p.m.
Each band will have a chance to play six or seven of their favourite pieces. Comox Valley Concert Band, under the baton of director Denise Marquette, loves medleys of famous composers. Stevie Wonder鈥檚 Isn鈥檛 She Lovely and Sir Duke, and Burt Bacharach鈥檚 Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head and This Guy鈥檚 in Love With You will be featured. As well, children and adults alike will want to kick up their heels when the band strikes up Hootenanny and American Patrol.
Powell River Community Band and directors Roy Carson and Steve Cramero expect to entertain with a real variety of genres sure to entice the crowds at the park. It is great fun for the bands to get a chance to play for each other, maybe learn something new, and meet like-minded players.
The big finale of the afternoon will be three mass numbers sure to please all audience members. Youngsters will certainly enjoy Teddy Bear鈥檚 Picnic. Most young children today don鈥檛 get a chance to see band instruments up close and hear them while playing in a gorgeous park setting. What an opportunity for family fun!
So come on down to Comox Marina Park, bring a blanket or chairs, and bask in the beauty of our waterfront Valley while listening to some timeless music.
