The Celebration Singers Community Choirs will host a pair of Christmas concerts at St. George’s United Church, 505 6th St., Courtenay on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m.Photo supplied

The Comox Valley’s vibrant performing arts community has roared back to life and the Celebration Singers Community Choirs are delighted to be on the calendar for this year’s festive season.

Join them for Out of Silence…Song! as their 120 voices transport and delight listeners with their glowing, glorious harmonies.

The choirs are led by a trio of talented directors with a wealth of expertise and experience: Carol Anne Parkinson, Stephanie Eakle and Denise Marquette will deliver a show packed with variety, talent and joy. The music embraces an interesting blend of styles from folk, classical and pop to spiritual… and even a hint of rap.

Marquette has thoughtfully selected songs that honour the preciousness of the child and that celebrate the gift of life. The Celebration Singers will entice and excite when they perform the Christmas classic, Mary Did You Know?, the magnificent Circle of Life from The Lion King and Bless The Beasts and Children, which is described by one of the composers as a simple blessing honouring these two wordless groups.

The Grace Notes, directed by Eakle, will touch your heart with their joy and sense of community. Listen to their beautiful journey to the edge of space when they perform Ad Astra, to their great rhythm when they present Holiday Tango, and to their challenging body percussion in White Winter Hymnal.

And finally, the Men of Notes choir, led by Parkinson, will present their usual good humour and deep resonant sound. Christmas in Carrick fittingly features lyrics about festive food and drink; Gloria showcases their talented accompanist and is reported to be the most uplifting of sacred songs; and Painter of Wintertime overflows with beautiful winter images.

Collaborating with the choirs and directors are skilled accompanists Sean Mooney and Andrew Sims. Rounding out the sound will be talented local instrumentalists, Rod Olson and Ram Sudama (percussion), Nancy Cox (bass), Ellen Smith (viola, violin and bells) and Adam Willey (guitar).

Join in the festive fun at St. George’s United Church, 505 6th St., Courtenay on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. or Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Benjamin Moore House of Color (Courtenay), Blue Heron Books (Comox), and from choir members. Adults $25 and youth (18 and under) $15.
