Comox Valley Art Gallery presents winter film festival

A total of eight movies will be screened during the series

Tickets are on sale now for the Comox Valley Art Gallery’s Winter Film Series, which starts Jan. 8, with “Matt and Mara”.

The series of eight films will run every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Landmark Cinemas, 2265 Cliffe Ave., Courtenay, until Feb. 26. Tickets are available on-line at .

Regular tickets are $18 for each film, or $17 for CVAG members. A series pass for all eight films is $126, or $119 for CVAG members.

 The series features films from the Toronto International Film Festival Film Circuit.

Jan. 8 — Matt and Mara

Struggling with a new baby and a distracted husband, an academic is more than happy to hang out with a college pal who crashes back into her life. But what sort of relationship are they resuming, precisely?

Jan. 15 — The Outrun

After living life on the edge in London, Rona attempts to come to terms with her troubled past. She returns to the wild beauty of Scotland's Orkney Islands where she grew up, hoping to heal.

Jan. 22 — Ghostlight

When a construction worker unexpectedly joins a local theatre's production of Romeo and Juliet, the drama onstage starts to mirror his own life.

Jan. 29 — So Surreal: Behind the Masks

This film unveils the fascinating connection between the work of famed Surrealist artists and Yupʼik and Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw ceremonial masks, and the quest to bring some of the masks back home.

Feb. 5 — La Cocina

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of one of Manhattan’s biggest kitchens in this nerve-jangling tragicomedy.

Feb. 12 — Small Things Like These

In 1985, devoted father Bill Furlong discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent and uncovers shocking truths of his own.

Feb. 19 — In the Summers

Two sisters find their relationships to their loving but volatile father changing over the course of yearly summer visits to his New Mexico home.

Feb. 26 — Hard Truths

Pansy, angry and depressed, lashes out at family and strangers. Her constant criticism isolates her, except from her cheerful sister Chantal, who remains sympathetic despite their differences.

Purchasing advance tickets on-line is strongly recommended since most many films sell out. People can purchase tickets for $18, cash only, at the Theatre in advance of the screening, but only as available seats allow.
