The Brazilian Cultural Foundation along with Axé Capoeira Comox Valley are presenting a high flying, colourful showcase of Afro-Brazilian dance, martial arts and percussion on Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sid Williams Theatre.
This high energy performance will feature energetic, traditional dances to live Brazilian percussion including martial arts and acrobatic skills to really demonstrate energy and passion within the capoeira culture.
The local academy of Brazilian martial arts and culture is excited to premiere their new show right here in Courtenay. Axé Capoeira Comox Valley students of all ages will be performing and sharing the stage with invited guests including Masters of Capoeira and professional dancers.
A major highlight of the event will be special guest masters Mestre Testa (Kevin Brett) of Victoria with his precision percussive skills, Mestre Barraozinho and Instrutor Kallado (international capoeira champion) of Brazil along with professional dancers Instrutora Mumia and Tupi of Vancouver and Jill Russell and Iain Young of Vancouver Island. The group is putting together a sensational show that will be entertaining for all audiences.
The Axé Capoeira Comox Valley students are fervently priming their skills in preparation. They are especially excited to display them to the community after recently participating in the 25 year anniversary Batizado in Victoria B.C, where 46 Comox Valley students earned the next belts on their journey of capoeira.
