Courtenay Little Theatre (CLT) is holding auditions June 2 to 5 for its fall production of Homechild by Joan MacLeod.

This wonderful Canadian story tells of a retired Ontario farmer who came to Canada as a boy.

He took part in a program which brought orphans and other children to work on farms and in factories, or, occasionally, to be adopted.

Now in his late 80s, Alistair remembers his difficult youth in Canada and the sister he lost forever.

Director Ross Stephanson describes the play as 鈥渁 piece of history from a dark corner of Canada's past.鈥�

While not all home children were mistreated and many made a success in their new homeland, some had a difficult and painful experience.

Laced with flashes of humour, this fine play provides another wonderful vehicle for CLT to show its talents to the Comox Valley.  The play will run from Sept. 30 to Oct. 8 at the Sid Williams Theatre.

The play offers fine roles for mature actors and one young girl.  Lorna, Alistair's daughter, is in her 40s, but her aunts and neighbour are all well over 70.

The parts for men are Alistair's son and his friend, aged 40 to 50, and Alistair himself, now in his late 80s.

All adult roles will be auditioned on June 2 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Girls aged six to 10 interested in the part of Katie will be auditioned on June 3 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with callbacks planned for June 5  from 2 to 4 p.m.
